Community Connections

Community Connections

In cooperation with the Pre-Release Planning Program (PRPP) of the Georgia Department of Corrections and through funding from the Bureau of Justice Affairs, the Community Research Center within the School of Public Health facilitated the intervention, Community Connections from 2009 to 2012. This project supported HIV-positive former Georgia State prisoners as they returned to the Atlanta metro area and helped them get linked to medical care and other critical social services. Participants were paired with Peer Guides who shared with them their wealth of knowledge and provided them with emotional support and encouragement as these returning citizens transitioned into their home communities.

Please feel free to check out the Community Connections program and our past programming, as well as other impactful research that is happening in the Center of Excellence of Health Disparities Research.
