Why Peer Guides
Peer Guides are extremely important because of their ability to establish rapport and build trust with clients. Many Peer Guides have shared experiences with their clients, and have overcome some of the same challenges they face, such as dealing with stigma, discrimination, addiction, incarceration, and/or having an HIV- positive status. Peer Guides are also trained to maintain professional boundaries with their clients in clinical or organizational settings. The practice of cultural humility is vital to this program and is a necessary skillset to cultivate in all the trainees that we bring into this program.
